United States: Connecticut SB 292 (Public Act 24-59) — PFAS in Certain Consumer Products
Connecticut's Public Act No. 24-59 (Substitute Senate Bill No. 292) restricts intentionally added PFAS in a wide range of consumer goods, including cosmetics, cookware, dental floss, and menstrual products. Covered products must be labeled as containing PFAS starting July 1, 2026, with a full sales ban taking effect January 1, 2028.
The state's Department of Energy and Environmental Protection enforces the law and has since approved the specific wording required for PFAS-content labeling on covered products.

Illinois Public Act 104-0231 amends the state's PFAS Reduction Act to expand the existing ban on intentionally added PFAS to additional product categories, including cosmetics, dental floss, juvenile products, menstrual products, and intimate apparel.
The expanded ban takes effect January 1, 2032. The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency is also directed to submit a report assessing the regulatory approach for fluoropolymers in consumer products by August 1, 2027.

The substance has been added to Canada's Domestic Substances List, while SNAc requirements are being maintained due to potential toxicity concerns when the substance is used at nanoscale, particularly in consumer products that release the substance in airborne particles.
